π Your 2026 Trick-or-Treat Guide for the Olympia Area
A seasonal roundup of free trick-or-treats, trunk-or-treats, and family Halloween events across Thurston County this October.

Halloween sneaks up fast, so here is your head start. Thurston County has a full slate of trick-or-treats, trunk-or-treats, and family Halloween events this October, most of them free and easy to fold into a weekend.

Downtown Olympia leads things off with a two-week run. From October 17 to 31, the LoveOly Downtown for Halloween scavenger hunt sends families around downtown collecting passport stamps for a chance at prizes. On Halloween itself, October 31, downtown merchants hand out candy from 3 to 6 in the evening, with a pet costume contest thrown in.
The trunk-or-treats are where the community really shows up. Tumwater hosts its trunk-or-treat at City Hall on October 31 from 2 to 4, with decorated car trunks lined up for easy, walkable candy runs. Out in Yelm, the Recreation Boo Bash brings a family Halloween party to the community center on October 24, and Rochester Primary School pairs a trunk-or-treat with a fall carnival the same afternoon.
There is plenty more where that came from, from church trunk-or-treats to costume parties, so treat this as a starting point and build your own route. A few of these events shift times year to year, so double-check the details close to the date.

Real estate note: the number of free, family-run Halloween events across Thurston County says something about the place. Walkable downtowns, active parks departments, and neighborhoods that go all in on trick-or-treat are a big part of why families put down roots in Olympia, Tumwater, and Lacey and stay through every season.
