🎁 The South Sound Dad Guide for Father's Day 2026

8 Ideas for Spending Sunday, June 21 With the Dad in Your Life

Father's Day lands on Sunday, June 21, 2026, and the South Sound is unusually loaded for this one.

The weather is finally summer, two festivals are in town, and the region is full of things a dad would actually pick over a tie.

Here are 8 ideas, sorted from "easy half-day" to "make a real adventure of it."

✈️ 1. The Olympic Air Show (June 20–21)

If dad is into anything with an engine, this is the move. The Olympic Air Show runs both Saturday and Sunday at the Olympia Regional Airport in Tumwater. Doors open at 9 a.m., the show runs 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tickets are about $20 a day or $35 for the weekend, and kids 6 and under are free. (We have a full post on this Tuesday.)

πŸš— 2. The LeMay America's Car Museum (Tacoma)

For the car-loving dad: LeMay holds one of the largest private collections in the world, 350+ vehicles on display, and changing exhibits. Open Sunday, family-friendly, indoors if the weather flips.

πŸ₯ƒ 3. A South Sound Brewery Flight

The region has gotten serious about beer over the last decade. A short crawl through 7 Seas (Tacoma + Gig Harbor), Wingman, E9, Narrows, and Tacoma Brewing Co. is a Father's Day classic. Most have patios; many are dog-friendly.

β›³ 4. Golf at Chambers Bay or Tacoma C&GC

For the golfer: Chambers Bay (the 2015 U.S. Open course) is a bucket-list round with Puget Sound as your back nine view. Tee times go fast for Father's Day, book ahead. Tacoma Country & Golf Club is the other classic.

πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ 5. A Point Defiance + Ruston Walk

Easy. Point Defiance Park has a 5-mile loop and an actual rainforest in the middle of Tacoma. Pair it with a flat Ruston Way walk and lunch at Duke's Seafood for a low-key win. All free except lunch.

πŸ¦‘ 6. Squid Fishing on Puget Sound

Quintessentially Tacoma. Squid fishing requires almost no gear (a rod, a squid jig, a flashlight), and Les Davis Pier and Owen Beach are accessible prime spots. Free, fun, and dad gets bragging rights.

🍳 7. Brunch Done Right

The local brunch list is deep: Crown Bar, Pacific Grill, Wooden City (downtown's new location), Marrow Kitchen, Old House CafΓ©. Reservations recommended for Father's Day; some restaurants release special menus.

πŸ” 8. A Mt. Rainier Day Trip

If you want to make a real day of it, Sunrise in Mt. Rainier National Park is about 2 hours from Tacoma. Wildflowers should be starting. Pack snacks, bring layers, leave early.

πŸ“ˆ Why It Matters

The South Sound has its quirks (rain, traffic, our infamous downtown parking) but Father's Day weekend is when the region shines: water on every side, mountains close enough to visit, food and beer worth braging on, and small enough that you can pack two of these into a single day.
