Mark your calendar. The biggest free community event in the South Sound is back.

Tacoma's 4th of July Summer Blast takes over Dune Peninsula and the Ruston Way Waterfront on Friday, July 4, 2026, from noon to 10:30 PM. It's free, family-friendly, and has been one of Tacoma's signature summer traditions for years. Presented by Parks Tacoma and the City of Tacoma.

🎪 The Day

Summer Blast unfolds across the full Ruston Way waterfront, from Dune Peninsula north to Cummings Park:

• 150+ vendors — food, crafts, community organizations, makers

• Two stages of live music running all day

• Family activities spread across the waterfront

• Food trucks plus the lineup of Ruston Way restaurants (Duke's, Lobster Shop, etc.) right at the route's doorstep

🎆 The Fireworks

The headliner is the 20-minute fireworks display over Commencement Bay, launched from a barge roughly 3,000 feet offshore from Cummings Park. The show typically kicks off around 10 PM and offers views from anywhere along Ruston Way, from Point Defiance, and from Tacoma's hillside neighborhoods.

📍 Where to Watch

The best Ruston Way viewing spots fill up fast. A few options:

• Ruston Way boardwalk — anywhere along the route. Best vibe.

• Dune Peninsula — newer park space with sweeping Mt. Rainier views.

• Point Defiance Park — north end, less crowded, great views.

• Browns Point Lighthouse — across the bay, peaceful.

• Hillside Tacoma neighborhoods — Stadium, North Slope, North End all have bay-view streets.

🚗 Parking and Planning

Ruston Way fills up early. Plan to:

• Arrive by 2–3 PM to claim a good spot

• Or take rideshare/walk in from nearby neighborhoods

• Bring blankets, low chairs, layers (waterfront gets cool at sunset)

• Pack snacks/water (vendor lines get long late in the day)
