🛹 Stewart Heights Skatepark Gets Major Upgrade on Tacoma’s Eastside

If you live in Tacoma’s Eastside, there’s good news rolling in — the Stewart Heights Skatepark is getting a long-awaited facelift.

Construction is now underway on a brand-new 2,200-square-foot concrete bowl, a major addition designed by the world-renowned Grindline Skateparks — the same Seattle-based company behind some of the most iconic skateparks in the country.

🏗 Designed by the Pros

Grindline has deep roots in the skate world, known for its craftsmanship and authentic approach to building parks that flow naturally with skaters’ needs. Their resume includes Tacoma’s Kandle Park, Norpoint Skate Plaza, and legendary spots like Burnside in Portland and FDR Park in Philadelphia.

The new bowl at Stewart Heights will replace aging sections of the park that date back to 2008, bringing a modern design and smoother transitions for both beginners and experienced riders.

đź’° A Community-Backed Investment

This $487,000 project is being funded through a voter-approved bond along with a state recreation grant, marking a strong community commitment to supporting public recreation spaces.

City officials and local advocates say the upgrade will breathe new life into the park, which has been a beloved gathering place for Tacoma’s skate scene for years.

🏞 What to Expect

Once completed — expected by this winter — the new bowl will serve as a focal point for the Eastside’s growing youth recreation network. The upgrade will improve safety, expand accessibility, and attract skaters from across the South Sound who have long considered Stewart Heights a community favorite.
