Overflo Potato Is Opening Its First Restaurant on Tacoma's 6th Ave

One of Tacoma's most-followed street-food businesses is going brick-and-mortar.

Overflo Potato is opening its first permanent restaurant this month at 2710 6th Ave, in the former Pizza Time Pub space.
Owners Destiny and Carwin Hawkins launched Overflo Potato nearly three years ago, and the concept is personal. "The idea stems from Carwin's roots in New Orleans, where loaded baked potatoes were his favorite lunch," Destiny told What Now Seattle. After Carwin moved to Washington in 2008, the couple blended his Southern flavors with her Pacific Northwest background, and Overflo Potato was born.
The move to a permanent spot came straight from customer demand. "The consistent push from our customers to be available more than three days a week is what ultimately inspired this move," she said.
The new 6th Ave restaurant will keep the loaded baked potatoes that built the following, and add a family-friendly atmosphere with a full bar (beer, cocktails, and more), a free pool table, darts, music, and desserts. For opening day, the team is introducing a few new items, including a new potato and several signature drinks.
The Hawkinses also plan to stay woven into the neighborhood, taking part in 6th Ave community events like Art on the Ave and Porchfest. "Carwin and I strive to provide customer service that truly feels like home," Destiny said. "We want to offer a comfort space where everyone feels welcome and valued."

Real estate note: 6th Ave is one of Tacoma's most consistent small-business corridors, walkable, event-driven, and full of independent operators. A street-food business earning enough of a following to sign a lease on 6th Ave is exactly the kind of organic growth that keeps a district vital. When the pop-ups put down roots, the neighborhood is doing something right.
