🍕 Milton Just Got the South Sound's First Pizza Drive-Thru

If you've been following Pierce County's food truck scene over the last few years, this name might already be familiar.

Just a Pizza My Mind, the wood-fired pizza truck that started as a single trailer in 2022, opened its first brick-and-mortar shop in Milton in October 2025. Seven months later, plenty of South Sound locals still haven't been. And it's not a traditional restaurant, it's a drive-thru.

🚗 What Makes This Unusual
Drive-thru pizza is rare for a simple reason: pizza takes a long time to cook. Most ovens need 10–15 minutes to bake a pie, way too slow for the drive-thru model that lives on speed.

The Ranz family worked around that with wood-fired ovens. A wood-fired pie cooks in roughly 90 seconds. That's the window that makes a drive-thru possible.

The result: you pull up, order, and drive away with a fresh pie in roughly the time it takes to grab a fast-food meal. "One of the first made-to-order pizza drive-thrus in existence anywhere," according to the founders.

👨‍👩‍👧 The Family Behind It
Owners Melissa and Samuel Ranz built the business from one food truck, affectionately named "Jackie" that they launched in 2022. The truck developed a loyal regional following and was named:

• Best Food Truck by the Tacoma News Tribune

• Best Food Truck by South Sound Magazine

The new Milton brick-and-mortar is in a former Gravity Coffee location they've nicknamed "Grey" a small structure right off Milton Way, perfectly suited to the drive-thru format.

The Milton shop offers:

• 20+ signature wood-fired pies (most $14–$19)

• Rotating monthly specials

• Two dessert pies

• Standard sides and drinks

Signature pies trade on playful ingredient combos, the kind of thing that earned them their food-truck reputation in the first place.

📈 Why It Matters
Milton isn't usually on the South Sound food map. It sits in the wedge between Federal Way, Fife, and Puyallup, close to a lot of things but rarely the destination itself.

Just a Pizza My Mind's choice to plant a flag in Milton, instead of a more obvious Tacoma or Puyallup location, is the kind of move that quietly shifts the regional food map. The drive-thru format is built for the surrounding commuter corridors, and it gives Milton a genuinely unique food destination.
