Kokovoko, a Beach-Themed Cafe and Cocktail Bar

Opening in Tacoma's Stadium District

Tacoma's Stadium District is getting an island escape.

Kokovoko, a cafe by day and craft cocktail bar by night, is preparing to open at 102 N G St, and it's built around a playful literary theme.

The name comes from Moby-Dick: Kokovoko is the fictional island home of the character Queequeg. The space runs with that idea, leaning into an imaginary-island, beach-getaway atmosphere that's a little unexpected for a Pacific Northwest neighborhood, which is exactly the point.

The concept shifts with the clock. In the daytime it operates as a cafe; in the evening it turns into a craft cocktail bar. The food program centers on Latin American street food and tacos, giving it range from a quiet afternoon coffee to a full night out.

Kokovoko comes from Christopher Keil, who also owns the Tacoma bar Proof, so the cocktail side arrives with a track record. The team is targeting a late-August 2026 opening.

Details:

  • Location: 102 N G St, Unit G116, Tacoma, WA 98403 (Stadium District)

  • Opening: Late August 2026 (target)

  • Concept: Cafe by day, craft cocktail bar by night; Latin American street food and tacos

Real estate note: the Stadium District is one of Tacoma's most walkable, character-rich neighborhoods, and its mix of independent cafes, bars, and restaurants is a big part of why homes there hold their appeal. A distinctive new concept, not a chain, but a themed owner-operated spot, is the kind of addition that keeps a district's foot traffic and personality strong. For anyone watching Stadium District real estate, a healthy street-level scene is part of the value.
