🚲 Joy Ride Bikes Is Closing After 24 Years in Lacey

Here’s when, and why it matters.

One of the South Sound’s most beloved bike shops is saying goodbye — here’s when, and why it matters

If you've ever taken your bike in for a tune-up at Joy Ride Bikes — or just wandered in for gear, advice, or a friendly chat — the countdown has begun for your last visit.

After 24 years in business, Joy Ride Bikes is officially closing its doors. The final day of operation will be Thursday, July 25, and the owners are encouraging customers to redeem any remaining gift cards by June 28.

💬 A Farewell from Will & Jamie
Owners Will and Jamie, who have been at the helm since the beginning, announced their decision with a heartfelt thank-you to the community. The couple is retiring after more than two decades of serving cyclists across Lacey, Olympia, and beyond.

“We’ve had the honor of helping generations of riders — from daily commuters and competitive racers to families just getting started,” they shared. “We’re beyond grateful for the support and friendships we’ve built over the years.”

🏙️ More Than Just a Bike Shop
Joy Ride wasn’t just a place to buy gear. It was a trusted stop for:

  • 🚴‍♂️ Local cyclists looking for high-performance bikes and repairs

  • 👨‍👩‍👧 Families getting their kids their first bikes

  • 🧰 Commuters and trail riders who needed quick tune-ups and honest advice

  • 🛠️ Free clinics, bike fitting sessions, and custom builds

The shop played a key role in supporting bike culture and outdoor recreation across Thurston County — from sponsoring events to mentoring young riders.
