If you’re planning to drive near Capital Mall in West Olympia next week, you’ll want to give yourself a little extra time. Construction tied to the new Chick-fil-A project is set to cause lane closures and traffic delays along Cooper Point Road.

According to the City of Olympia, crews will be installing new utilities for the upcoming restaurant beginning Monday, Sept. 22 through Friday, Sept. 26. The work will include a mix of daytime and nighttime shifts, each affecting different portions of the roadway.

Here’s the breakdown:

• Night Work: Monday & Tuesday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m.

  • Impacts: two northbound lanes and the southbound left-turn lane

• Day Work: Wednesday through Friday, 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.

  • Impacts: one northbound lane

🚦 What Drivers Should Expect

Drivers in the area can expect slower traffic, lane restrictions, and delays throughout the week. The city is recommending that commuters either:

• Use alternate routes to avoid the construction zone, or

• Build in extra travel time if Cooper Point Road is part of their usual drive
